Our Tasmanian Leatherwood Honey is collected from bee hives located remotely in the Tarkine rainforest in the North West of Tasmania, Australia. The small Australian island of Tasmania provides a glimpse into truly pristine environments, with 37% of the island’s land dedicated to natural reserves, national parks or world heritage sites to preserve this outstanding natural beauty and unique ecosystem. The Tarkine Forest being part of a world heritage area to protect Tasmanian’s natural beauty and pristine environment, also boasts the cleanest water and air in the world.

The Tarkine rainforest, where the bee hives are located, is home to the largest temperate rainforest in Australia and second largest in the world, covering 3 800 square kilometres (1500 square miles). This is significant as temperate rainforests are the rarest of their kind, even more endangered than tropical and subtropical rainforest environments, making the Tasmanian leatherwood honey one of the most exclusive and premium produced in the world.

Because of this remote and protected environment the ancient wilderness of Tasmania’s Tarkine Forest in Australia remains untouched and pure; it is here you will find the leatherwood tree where it originated 65 million years ago. Within this forest the leatherwood tree (Eurcyphia Lucida) begins flowering in the late spring and summer, when beautiful white flowers emerge with lovely pink bulbs blossom. As the tree sprouts its delicate flowers and its perfume permeates the forest it attracts honey bees to pollinate and capture the elegant taste, aroma and essence of this ancient rain forest.
